9981 Series – DUCK (CANVAS) BAG

It has been a long time ago since we acquired these heavy-weight duck fabric. If I remember correctly, we got it from one of our leather supplies when we were having a chat about duck fabric. Leading us to the upper storage of shelves, he enthusiastically dug deep and pulled out few rolls of dusty duck canvas. As the warehouse needed space for more leather hides coming in, he actually wanted to throw these rolls of duck canvas away to make way.

Coincidentally, when we mentioned we would like to try out on canvas, he thought we should have these. True enough, we imagined we might be able to run some designs on them. So, we loaded them on the trunk and brought at least 5 to 6 rolls back to the workshop.

However, ever since we stocked these heavy-weight canvas, we have not put them into good use either… Until recently, while arranging them in the new workshop, we decided to make some bags out of them.

We did a few prototype runs and finalized on 2 designs at the moment – A messenger style and a bag suitable for bikers.

Quality check and all carried out on the messenger bag for 6 months. Got into rain, spices, dirt and then washed twice and sun. Oiled twice after washing and it turns out this way.

Blue Cavalier for the sea

Continuation of WX2 Military leather goods, this week we release the Naval wallet.

Wx2 Naval Wallet

The idea came about when we first handled our supplies of these Blue Cavalier Chromexcel Leathers (Horween). What we saw was a wavy ‘sea of blue leathers’ when stacking the hides on the shelf. All it took was someone to cry out, we should do something for the Navy. And that is how it all started.

Wx2 Naval Wallet

Standing at 5″ tall, this wallet is perfect for any backpockets. Brown threads contrasting the blue leather with a curve cut on the leather flap.

The buttons hidden for the closure is with a reason as we want to make use of the pull-up characteristics of the chromexcel leather for the buttons to create impressions on the leather surface. Showing different tones of blue and adding character to the wallet just like the cool characters of those Naval boys.

Wx2 Naval Wallet

Imagining the life of the seamen out in the ocean, they would often want to keep a picture or two of those whom they want to remember – their loved ones. These precious pictures must be kept with security as well as carry along all the time. To fulfill this, the extra leather flap with buttons closure ensures that.

Instead of building a ‘window screen’ for the pictures to be seen easily, we would like you to put the pictures in the hidden slot (behind the card slots). The reason is simple, this is a Naval wallet, designed with a sailor’s lifestyle in mind. Not a wallet for you to flip out conveniently to show your pass to enter office building.

Used BRAVE Mid wallet

After almost one year of usage, these BRAVE Mid wallet served us very well. And on top of what we always wanted, they aged really well with minimum maintenance of the leather.

As you might know, all our BRAVE series products are made of HORWEEN chromexcel leather.

We have briefed before that we often design base of the inherent properties of the leathers we use. (see our Facebook note for details)

Here, we show you the differences between the aged and new, Brave Mid Wallet.

Brave Mid Wallet black

Facing left is aged, right is new.

In comparison, you will see an obvious surface texture difference – Aged, shows more grain where as during new, the grains are not as apparent. This is the result of the inevitable light abrasion occurs during handling of the leather.

When we talked about the ‘clam’ effect technique that is employed on this design, it is understandably obvious when compared to the new ones. Take a look at the edges of both wallets – the aged wallet has got its edge bending inwards, similar to a close clam.

Brave Mid Wallet burgundy

The above picture shows BRAVE Mid wallet of Burgundy HORWEEN CXL leather.

For colours other then Black, indigo staining on CXL pull-up leather is faster when you tend to wear dry denim often. This is due to the high absorbent properties of pull-up leathers. Illustrated in the picture, a denim lover like me enjoyed every indigo stain on my Burgundy wallet.

Looking at the aged wallet again, you can easily spot some line impressions on its surface. They are caused by the denim fabric on my jeans backpocket. Such is an example pull-up leather being soft and stretchy.

If you are like me, who enjoys the process of aging products, these high quality wallets are readily available here in our webstore
